The Catatumbo Lightning
This incredible meteorological phenomenon is found, specifically, in the southern area of Lake Maracaibo, in the Catatumbo river basin, which gives it its name, and is characterized by the continuous appearance of a series of lightning flashes that must travel great distances to be observed. This occurs in highly developed clouds vertically that are capable of forming electric discharge between 2 and 10 km in height.
All this happens thanks to the effect of the mountain system of Perijá and the Condillera de Los Andes, these formations surround and brake the winds that come from the northeast, guaranteeing the constant formation and development of the clouds necessary to generate this eternal thunderstorm so impressive in sight.
In 2013, the environmentalist Erik Quiroga asks the Guinness World Records Organization to assign the World Record to the region for having the "World's Largest Lightning Average for Km2: 250 lightning bolts per km2 per year) and on January 28 of 2014 the title is officially accredited.
Well, dear friends, I hope you liked what I brought for you. I have not had the opportunity to visit this wonderful place, but it is certainly on my list of things to do before I die. Greetings to all of you from the country of these lightning bolts: Venezuela: D
