Housesitting! 3 months Australia!

in #travel7 years ago

We got into housesitting by accident - a lady we had met in Spain near where we live off grid needed a new housesitter while she worked in the UK. It was a no-brainer for us! we were going to spend time with her two dogs, enjoy comfort, electricity and running water...and get paid! (The house sitting we do for travel/in return for accommodation is unpaid).
After doing this for a few months we found out more about housesitting and decided to join a website that pairs up hosts and sitters. We verified our identity and soon snagged our first sit near Granada! It wasn't without its teething troubles when two of the dogs got out and we had a car breakdown, but all went well in the end and we were told we were welcome to come back again. We then had xmas in Marbella with two amazing Hungarian Vizlas in a lovely house and warm weather over the festive period. Earlier this year we needed accommodation in the UK and we had a few days in Whitstable, arriving on the back of a recovery lorry...it was beginning to become a theme! It was a lovely stay as it was where Grahams grandparents used to live, their old house had been converted into a wedding venue and the owners happily showef us round chatting about Grahams aunts. The two cats we had were no trouble but displeased their parents had left them and were just thawing towards us when it was time to go again! We were off to Bath with a repaired car and two awesome great danes in a fabulous house near the canal. We could walk into Bath along the towpath. From Bath it was looking after my daughters 2 cats while she honeymooned in Mauritius! In two weeks we will be flying to Australia for a six and a half week sit in Cairns and the day after that sit ends we will be flying to one in Darwin for another three and a half weeks, from there we are travelling to Vietnam as we will have saved on accommodation we can afford to see some sights there. We're looking forward to meeting our canine charges! We love what we do, we get to live like locals and see more of the world!
