Our Little Australian Outback Adventure - Night TEN - Coober Pedy

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone!

From this point in our travels we are starting our journey back. It started to feel like we have been on the road for quite some time. My daughter started to mention that she is missing her pink bed. It was a great thing that we had a special night planned because it made us exited again and gave us some much needed energy! We stopped in Coober's Pedy to get some supplies and check out the opal mine museum. This time round weather was a lot better and we could spend more time walking around and explore this town. Lastly we make our way for one of the best accommodations on this trip! We slept in Riba's underground camping! We were told that this is the only place in the world that provides this kind of accommodation. Temperature is very stable and it is a nice break from the sun. I loved how the light was just reaching some parts of the tunnels, it look like from a movie.

Facilities were great, nice and clean, there are free showers for guests and outdoor kitchen to use. It also features Thunder Dunny toilet, which is such a cool idea!

The only negative is that is gets noisy at night when other people talk and it just echoes through tunnels, but it is just a case of others being more considered especially after 10pm.

My husband attended a opal mine tour run within a camp grounds. It is worth to check it out because it gives you a lot of details about history of Coober's Pedy and today's opal mining practices. This accommodation cost us only $49 and that included a 1 hour tour for Tomek.

Hope you enjoyed it
