The location of Nijhunduva in the southernmost direction of Hatia upazila situated in the mouth of the river Meghna in the south of Noakhali district. In the 1940s the island started to rise from the Bay of Bengal. By the end of the 40's, the Nijhoddipp had become fit for grassland or grazing beyond the peak formation. Tool fishermen discover the Nijhumudipa for fishing. In the mid-fifties, settlement began in Nijhund. Originally from Jahajamara union of the tool some fishermen families came to the first Nijhadwip. Fishermen named the island as "Ichamati Island" because a lot of fish (shrimps) were caught in adjoining areas. When the island was occasionally like a sand mound or a hill, local people called the Island as Bileley Daily. 
By the time Ikhamati Island name was lost, but the local people still address the island as the biliary dail. Whatever the name of Nijhum Island or Bailery Dale, the Diya survey department of the land ministry surveyed the land on this island as Char Osman Mauja. It is said that a brave Brahmania named Sardar Osman, with 100 buffaloes, first went to the Meghna and assisted the Azai and Diya survey workers on the island, and according to his name, the official name of the maiden named 'Char Osman' was named. There is a settlement of about 3000.00 acres of entire Nijhum Island and the remaining part contains mangrove forests. Although it is locally known as Ichamati Island, Bailar Char or Char Osman, this island has been known as Nijhum Island by the people of Bangladesh since the early 80's.
