Discover Malta! The island with a thousand faces (photo reportage - part I)
The Republic of Malta is a unique archipelago of islands in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. In the centuries, many cultures influenced this country, each one contributing in building its legend of a magic and timeless place.
Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Sicilians, Spanish, Knights of St. John, French, Italian, and British, all these civilisations have ruled these islands and left their original mark.
Malta will surprise you with its fortified bastions, the limestone beaten by the sun, the megalithic prehistorical temples - older than Stonhenge, the uncontaminated nature and beautiful beaches, the amusements and the hospitality of Maltese people.
I always had the feeling that this island is like the bag of Mary Poppins: small when considering it from the outside (the country covers just over 316 km2 - 122 sq mi, with a population of just under 450,000) but, at the same time, enormous when you live it and enjoy the many beautiful faces it offers to the traveller.
