 Simple pleasures of a waterfront lunch in  Hampden, Maine

Hampden, Maine is a small town on the banks of the Penobscot River.  The residents of Hampden are simple folks who enjoy the company of each other and their tiny community of 7,257 people.  They are very patriotic and support their children when they leave to serve their country.  They love a day at the park, or an afternoon at the Penobscot River.  This is not a big tourist area, but if you enjoy meeting the locals, having a simple lunch by the water, or going to a history museum, then you will enjoy Hampden. 

The town of Hampden was originally named after it's first settler, Benjamin Wheeler.  During this time the town of Wheelersborough was born. Latter, when it was incorporated, it became the city of Hampden in 1794. This time it was named after an Englishman, John Hampden. 

The John Hampden Society was chartered in 1992 and honors the Englishman, John Hampden, also know as the Patriot.  The John Hampden Society house is one of several historical homes. Museums are important in this area, and there are several in the  nearby area. 

When traveling in Maine, be sure to stop by and have a leisurely lunch. Enjoy the simple things and the down home cooking.
