Photo of the Day ~ Ancient Roman Ruins At Caesarea
On The Banks Of The Mediterranean Sea
These pillars are part of the ruins of the ancient city of Caesarea Maritima built during 25-10 BCE. Near by is also the ruins of Straton's Tower. Under the leadership of Herod the Great, this pagan city experienced many improvements . The city was latter called Caesarea to honor Caesar Augustus, who was the Roman emperor at the time.
History tells us that Caesarea Maritima was a marvelous city with beautiful palms, exotic gardens, citrus trees, completed by a system that supplied running water. They even had beautiful fountains with water spraying out all over the city What a magnificent port city on the banks of the Mediterranean Sea!
