Exploring the Limestone Maine Area

in #travel7 years ago

Writing on the road without high speed internet is not without it's challenges. Here in small town countryside time has stood still, and you might even think it is the 1800's. There are still people here resembling the Amish who have not joined the modern world 100% but have began to use electricity. Homemade baked goods, fresh butter, and custom large homes scatter the potatoes fields around the area of Limestone Maine, USA.

At one time this original cabin from the long past served as a stopping point when horse and buggies roamed the countryside.

These small churches still make up the center focus of these small towns and are used as meeting places outside of Sunday services.

There are often signs pointing to the potato blossoms, and the importance to the local community that harvest time is soon.

The fields here are also groomed similar to cut grass, and each farmer seems to follow this code. Only areas that are returned to nature remained within an un-groomed state.

That is just stunning, have always wanted to travel across America and pop into little towns off the beaten path. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you @morkrock we will be documenting this area of the USA and Canada over the next few months. It's allot of fun seeing the past still in operation here.

Looks so peaceful there.

It's very quiet there and sometimes just horse buggies only and no cars.

They must really love potatoes there.

Yes they seem to come with every Maine meal here.

Why do they grow so much potatoes there?

Allot of people in this area fled Europe and have a strong Swedish ancestry.

Interesting and excellent photos. Thanks for sharing.

I love travelling specially in areas enrich with nature and greenery.
Thank you for sharing these green , refreshing And calming pictures.

I've been to almost all the states, missing maybe 5 or so. Grew up in Connecticut so I have some very fond memories of Maine. Now that ocean water is cold!
