Exploring Calais North East Maine

in #travel7 years ago

Exploring and traveling while using Steemit has it's challenges. During this current trip in Maine USA we are trying to combine some lower quality photographs while using the esteem app.

Currently we are traveling all over Maine and want to share this great experience with Steemit as an exclusive. Normally over the years we have used facebook Twitter and Instagram where we have  a few million followers. We are hoping to bring more of them over to steemit, and here with us.

Our current location is just off the seaside in a town called Calais where some of the first French came to this region.

Saint Croix Island International Historic Site is located 8 miles south of Calais, Maine, on US Route 1. The drive only takes a few minutes outside of town, and it is a wonderful green drive.

Saint Croix Island, and the settlers with Samuel Champlain established in the area, and setup trading relationships with the natives already living within the area.

You can imagine the first ships dropping anchor in the distance.

With the French and the locals exchanging goods these first European settlers became established.

Here you can read information connected to the history in both English and French.
