#explore *Batu Caves Malaysia*

everyone who has been to Kuala Lumpur probably knows this place just outside of the city: the Batu Caves. I would like to share some impressions with you. They are limestone caves and a popular indian shrine.
Batu Caves
It is a very touristic place but during the ceremonies you meet a lot of indian people practicing their religion and wearing traditional clothing. You walk up by taking an enormous amount of stairs to find a cave decorated with religious symbols and statutes. When we were inside there was a ceremony taking place.
So it was really enjoyable to see. Especially not having any contact with places like this, it is interesting to observe different cultures.
Tourism and Nature
What also draws a lot of attention coming from a place with no wild monkeys is the amount of Macaque monkeys running around, up and down the stairs and climbing in the bushes. On the left photo below a mother is carrying her baby with confidence through all the people.
Unfortunately the monkeys are looking for food and find human processed foods and plastic. We saw a couple of monkeys grabbing food from people. Of course they take what they can. But it looks just wrong seeing monkeys chewing on plastic packaging. It has been like this for a long time at this place and make it makes you conscious to be respectful to your surroundings and the nature as a tourist.
The statues at Batu Cave do impressive with the rocks,trees and stairs behind it. Its sure sad that the monkeys eat from plastic bags. I had similar experience in other places and its difficult to make sure tourists behave proper towards the monkeys otherwise they the result is them stealing food etc. Nonetheless hope you enjoyed the encounter with the monkeys.
