Gorodische in the city of Great Ustyug

A little rest from the posts about Krasavino. In Ustyug there is also an area called Gorodische, as same as Krasavino.

This is my favorite place in this city.

And this is my favorite photo of this place!

The Gorodische is a very ancient place - it is located on a low hill, surrounded by a lake on one side and the Sukhona River on the other. In ancient times it was surrounded by ramparts and water around, like a fortress, to protect against the attacks of foreigners. From Gorodische, according to annalistic data, the city of Veliky Ustyug was formed.

Now on Gorodische there is a church of the Miracle of Archangel Michael in Honeh.

There are almost no houses here. On the place of the demolished houses there are formed wastelands, which overgrow with burdock and nettles.

During the "big water" the settlement becomes an inaccessible island.

By the end of summer the lake is covered with mud.

Next to the lake is a square.

Happens, I come to take a walk, take pictures, but tightens it, then I spend almost half a day in this place! Somehow it is isolated from the whole city and there are almost no people there.

But It is not good that the lake is overgrown with willow...
