Floodplain villages. Striga

in #travel5 years ago

In this series I will talk about localities, mainly about villages that are located in the floodplain zone.

Striga is the name of a small river and village in the Veliky Ustyug district. The village and the river near the village are located in the floodplain of the Northern Dvina River. Here begins the flooded area. There are a globe-flowers ground on the fields, which are listed in the Red Book.

From the asphalt road, you can walk along the field roads to the Striga River. In the distance, the Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God is visible.

The river is very winding and there are many places near it that look like the old river beds.

In spring, these places are often under water. Ten years ago, cows grazed here.

Striga itself is not wide, but deep and fast. Even in the middle of summer its not so easy to cross. I never tried to fish in this river, but my father told me that he caught crayfish here.

The river originates in the forest. The water in it is almost always dark and muddy. I still remember the times when a lot of agricultural equipment and trailers for tractors were lying around the river.

Thunderstorm is coming.

Behind the temple is an agricultural enterprise.

In Soviet times, the church was used as a workshop for the repair of tractors. Now it is in the scaffolding - they are trying to restore it.

Further beyond the Striga, the rest of the floodplain villages begin.
