Hua Hin by Night + Culture Shock

A photographic story through the night market and bar street in Hua Hin on a Friday night. Armed with Nikon D7200 and Nikkor 35mm. I had to step a little bit out of my comfort zone, because I wanted to photograph people but I only had the 35mm with me, so I had to sneak in close without anyone noticing me and stopping what they were doing.

Someone who is born and bread in Finland, Thailand is a polar opposite. Where as in Finland is quiet, simplistic and cold, Thailand is loud, colourful and hot. In Finland people stand farther apart and refrain from talking to strangers.

Thailand is in your face, close and not afraid. I am very awkward when strangers talk to me and come right up to my skin, that is something I do not like, at all. Strangely, I found comfort behind my camera, it shielding me from too close encounters and letting me step back and focus on the things I see more clearly, frame the view for myself to be more easily digested.

For me, seeing so much and being around so many people, is very tiring. I run out of juice quite easily and get agitated and cranky. I'm quite glad that there is no set schedule I have to follow and I can easily take time to be by myself on the poolside, photograph the sunset on a tranquil beach, and work on my pictures.

You know what they say that a picture is worth a thousand words so great job with that photos! It is interesting to make this social experiment where you as a cold person expose to so many extrovert people. I guess you won't have time to get used to it unfortunately...

First of all I really like you photos. Secondly I must say that you are the luckiest guy because you have time. You can do what you want.
I am also a photographer and I like to capture the nature. My best photography view is the sunset view. But nowaday due to some financial problem I don’t have a camera. Once when I have a camera of 35mm I was so happy because I pick my camera come outside and capture very moment which attracts me.
Here in our society there is no value of photography so thats why I can’t continue my photography.
I wish to be a professional photographer. Its my dream and its my passion. And I know that one day will come when I will be a professional photographer. And I hope so 😊

Wonderful photography. Nice post.

nice travel, we can look other culture in other country @eveuncovered

@eveuncovered Very nice post. As I was reading along I could totally understand exactly what you mean. I don't like people getting to close. The pictures made me feel as if I were there. Super, best wishes to you always. - @splendorhub
P.s Your packing video was awesome :)

Lovely photos. The market looks very busy at night and the city alive. Nice and colorful. I miss Asia and the warm weather. The delicious food and the tropical fruits :)

Cool visual journey through that bit of the city. :) Great thing about that part of the world is that hardly anyone cares if you take a picture of them...unless you make a thing of it. I got really good at shooting without looking through the lens, snapping while the camera was still around my neck. Covert photo operations, hehe. :)

I did try that too but I wasn’t any good at it, all the pictures were badly framed and shaky.

Hehe, takes time :) I lived in Japan for like 6 years so I had a lot of practice.

This place looks very interesting, I hope to meet someday this site.

The raw nature of it reminds me of the street footage used in this special-effects short video:

A mixture of high and low-tech, constant bustle after a long hot day.

The big Q is - did you get your toes munched by the fish ;)

I did not!

But that's one of the best story starts ever:

While I was being eaten alive in Thailand...
