1 Day in Munich

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

I first heard about Bavaria in school where my German teacher told us stories about her days working for the summer in a factory. Apparently they used to get beer at the coffee break! I have been close several times but I have not yet made it to this part of the world.

Not only has Ryanair a base in Dublin and I have the day off, Ryanair had a new route to Munich and the ticket is only 45 Euro, less than the taxi to the airport!, So why not.

Breakfast in Dublin

It's an early start to make a six o'clock flight and I am intentionally leaving myself hungry this morning. Where I am heading is famous for its food and I am planning on having at least 3 meals there today.

Munich Baby

You guessed it I am heading to Munich, in the heartland of German Bavaria. Lonely planet describes it as "The natural habitat of well healed power dresses and Lederhosen clad thigh slappers"
I am traveling for the culture, the heritage, the technology and the food. Maybe a crazy trip for the day but hey it will give me a chance to try out my new Steem app Let's Eat, in Germany.

The plan for the day is light, I am going to explore this historic city, do a hop on hop off tour and visit BMW welt. That's it. Are you from Bavaria, what is the must see for one day in Munich?

Recommendations are welcome for some great pastries and places for lunch!

See you in Germany!

I hope I can remember those German lessons from school.

Breakfast in Dublin then in Munich. An exciting life indeed. Seems like my name is on that plane literally lol. Have an amazing trip.

should take advantage of going to see a game of the bayern de munich, it is certainly a great alternative

Would love to go to Munich, heard so much about it!
Been to Dublin few times and it's madly expensive...
If you ever go back to Ireland again, visit smaller towns where you can feel the true Irish vibe more.
Enjoy :)

Ireland is way too expensive. I live in Dublin but I try to get out to the countryside as much as I can. It's very peaceful.

What is the 'Let's Eat' App? It's one of my favourite pastimes. Tell us more!

It's a project on Steemit that I have been working on for some time.

Here is a teaser from the latest build. It seems to work in Munich 😀

Cool! What a great idea. Is it available on Android? If not when? Will it be available on Playstore? I assume the review writer is rewarded with Steem and you get lots of reviews as people are more motivated to give them than through altruism alone. Great. I'm getting very suspicious of any reviews I read on TripAdvisor this could be a big thing!! You can fill me in the next time I make it to a Steem Dublin meetup.

The first version will be Android and it will be in the playstore, it's not there yet but I am expecting it to be up by the end of this month.

Traveling to Japan in November I was forced to reinstall TripAdvisor. There is just no good alternative for this sort of thing. This app will fill the space for restaurants but my plan is to greatly improve the experience over existing alternatives. I'll fill you in when we meetup and I am going to flesh out the vision for this app and I'll be posting about it over the coming weeks.

As the name suggests you will use it to find restaurants and submit reviews on the go. All built on Steem 😀

Need start getting ready for 'Let's Stay' as phase 2! Looking forward to it, I did write some trip advisor reviews years ago, but then realised I was doing all the work and TripAdvisor were reaping the profits. I watching something a couple months ago about a guy who was a professional ( for hire) review writer for them. He decided to see how far he could take it by writing reviews for a restaurant called the shed. It's amazing how you can take it to the top with no credible product; have a read if you haven't come across it before http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/the-shed-at-dulwich-was-london-s-top-rated-restaurant-just-one-problem-it-didn-t-exist-a8107791.html. The advantage of Let's Eat is there is no motivation to cheat or at least everyone is equally motivated, so no one gains advantage.
I do have a friend who is head chef at a two star Michelin restaurant in England. They occasionally get low ratings from people who write reviews that start off, "I have never been to this restaurant, but it is a completely pretentious place", some people!!

It would be so wrong not to take adavantage of the cheap tickets

I wish you a pleasant journey, enjoy the views and food!

Awesome... I'd be lucky to find that cheap a flight to a differnt state in the US, let alone to another country. Granted Europe is becoming more like the US of E...

Haha not really sure if I get this:

"The natural habitat of well healed power dresses and Lederhosen clad thigh slappers"

Enjoy!

I worked in Munich as a Zimmer Madchen many moons ago when I was saving up for college. It's a great town. You'll have a ball, especially if you like your beer.

It's a wonderful city. Today was just a short hop but I'll have to come back in the summer time. I really like it here. I have just had the route of the BMW factory now I'll have time to try the beer before I head to the airport 😀

Again, if you like beer, Oktoberfest is a crazy time to visit. You have to book accommodation months in advance as the entire town is booked out.

Safe travels my friend! Enjoy the German cuisine!

Man Munich is great. You will have to come back over and do a tour of Europe, maybe if steemfest is on again in Europe this year.

I agree, I sure hope it's somewhere over there. Great excuse to travel. I will definitely be back in Ireland again too

I love Munich! I have such great memories of the Jagermeister hostel/bar and Hofbrauhaus!

How cool a location would it be for a steemfest. Shout out to @roelandp if your listening!
