Steem friends!

Today we’re going to share more about out trip to Oaxaca wich is a pretty town and an spectacular place to eat. In this chapter we will show you the Museum of Cultures that is located in the former Santo Domingo Convent, next to the temple.

In the picture you can see the Santo Domingo Temple and to the left you can se the entrance to the museum. The museum building is a show by itself, its architecture and the good care they have taken, makes a simple tour through its halls worth the visit. This enclosure surprised me a lot, I did not expect such a large and beautiful museum.

The photo above shows the the building's courtyard an in the next image we can see the main entrance to the exhibit. Almost every room is surrounded by these dark and long corridors which gave us several photo opportunities.

As you can see, must of the exterior windows have bars and the walls of the building are thick and tall. This is because it used to be a convent and they did not want anyone to enter or leave the place without being seen. In addition to looking good, this ex-convent gives us postcards of the city like these.

At the beginning we decided to visit this museum because they have an exhibit of a real treasure found in tomb number 7 of Monte Alban, an arqueological site near the city. The treasure consists of gold ornaments and sculptures decorated in jade.
Below we show some pictures of some artifacts found there.

After spending an afternoon walking in the museum and its surroundings, we deserved a good dinner. So we went to Los Danzantes, a well recommended restaurant property of a mezcal brand of the same name.

Here we were greeted with tortillas and warm bread, sided with spicy salsas and butter.

We accompany dinner with some Mezcal cocktails.

As an appetizer we ordered a Hoja Santa Quesadilla in green tomatoes sauce. An we love it! Instead of using tortilla they put the Hoja Santa, a large leaf with a strong flavor. Its usually used in rituals but you can also eat it. We found it very fresh and recommendable.

The main course was a Shrimp Tlayuda. This is a typical dish of the region and you can get it open or folded. In this case was folded, like a quedadilla. The ingredients of a typical tlayuda are: Carbon dried tortilla, asiento (kind of a grease), beans, Oaxaca cheese and any filling you want.

The other main course was Fried Shrimp Breaded with Amaranth. Accompanied by a mango sweet and sour sauce. This is not a very typical dish, but we can’t resisted it.
