Just south of Naples as one travels south down the shin of Italy, past Pompeii is Sorrento. This small town on the Amalfi coast hides a tourists gem, The Valley of the Mills. The site dates back to the 10th Century in terms of milling. The Italians have an appetite for pasta, it seems and so a strong reliable water supply was needed.

The valley was abandoned about 60 years ago and nature has reclaimed its space.

I hope you enjoy this montage of images, set to Luciano Pavarotti singing Miss Sarajevo with U2.

Interesting reference in the video to sword makers in the area dying early and grisly deaths from breathing steel particles into their lungs. Live by the sword - die by the sword!

Haha! Indeed ... if it doesn't get you one way, it'll get you another!

hmmm..been to Sorrento and didn't know of this place. there's not much to do there unless daytrips.

Are you concerned that it is not there or that you missed it?! I can assure you that it is there. It is easy to miss as you have to go to the edge of town and look down into the gorge which is more than tricky to access. I hope you enjoyed the show!

Can't open the vid :) will check youtube. am more of missing probably bec i didn't walk that far out.

Pls let me know if you continue to have difficulties. It happened the other day with my first ever youtube video - I had set it to 'private' - not clever! I found out three hours after posting ... not very clever. You live and learn. I love the track too - Miss Sarajevo, Pavarotti with U2.

Amazing looking place... and a beautifully done montage; nice choice of music, too. It's interesting to see how quickly nature reclaims what we "borrow." I've been to a few ghost towns in Colorado... and wood and the stone slowly reverts to the parts of nature whence it came.

Thank you very much @denmarkguy (nearly used the familiar!) - I have been to Colorado once to ski. I loved it - the winter landscapes are amazing and there is something very pure about the horses in snow covered paddocks. You should do a post of your shots if you have them. Happy to give you the production technique now I seem to be getting better at it.
With the Italian connection it was an easy choice - one of my favourite U2 tracks.

Watching your video was, for me, a fascinating glimpse into a lushly overgrown past. Almost like time-travel.

I was particularly wondering about the people who lived in the residence with the terraced steps (about 2:35 in the video). 😄😇😄

@creatr

Thanks for a very interesting presentation.

The people who live there are the Lister family. They are peculiar as all the men list to the right and the girls to the left! Just being silly. Thank you for your kind remarks, much appreciated! Enjoy your weekend.

LOL! :) Thanks again; I hope your weekend is great for you as well. ;)
