Day trip to Gozo,Malta

Hello all travellers, It has been a while since my last post about my travels but this is because of lack of time in that busy December period. My journey I took in November to visit my friend in Gozo in the Mediterranean sea with relaxing ambience of landscape where the time pass much slowly and people do not rush at all. I found #Gozo much more different form Maltese Island; different milestones, traditions and definitely lower population which makes It an excellent location for healthy and testy products. The temperatures are around 20°C in the sun so it is just lovely and not too hot to explore it.

I found November perfect time to rent a car on low cost and drive thought islands without any traffic in a fantastic weather. Winter time is definitely no crowded with tourists who come to relax on the beach and cooling in the crystal water when temperatures are up to 45˚C.

I enjoyed my driving to Northen part of Malta; Cierkiewwa from where I took a ferry to Mgarr, Gozo. There is a 24h ferry’s services which runs every 30 min. I was lucky to caught one straight away.

Takes only 20 min on the ferry where you can have something to eat or drink, but myself I preferred to stay on the deck and enjoyed the view despite the wind. The time passed, so quickly that I have to run to the car where the doors were already opened for cars to leave. All cars were going in one direction so I followed them without any worries that I get lost in that small island of only 67 square km. I know that all roads lead to the capital; Victoria also knows as Rabat like in Italy all the roads go to Rome.

Capital includes both the old Rabat town and the Citadel – the antique city on top of the hill. In fact, Rabat means ‘suburb’ in Arabic, meaning that the town was a suburb of the Citadel.

The town has a population of around 7,000, making it the most populated town in Gozo. The name Victoria was given in 1887 in honour of the famous British Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations, and the town was also raised to a city status.

The Citadel in Gozo owes its roots to the late medieval era, but the hill has been settled since Neolithic times. For centuries, the Citadel served as a sanctuary from attack by Barbary corsairs and Saracens. At several times during Gozo's history, these raiders took its population into slavery.

After the Great Siege of 1565, the Knights set about re-fortifying the Citadel to provide refuge and defence against further attack. Until 1637, the Gozitan population was required by law to spend their nights within the Citadel for their own safety. In later, more peaceful times, this restriction was lifted and people settled below its walls, creating the prosperous town of Rabat, now known as Victoria.

Victoria is not just the geographic heart of Gozo, it is also the centre of everyday activity where is a daily open-air market with all sorts of tourist souvenirs and a number of cafes surround the square

I am a big fun of seafood so before I went to see my friend I stoped in fishmonger to get some fish and mussels for a dinner.

He lives in small village which lies on the fertile hill with an amazing view for #Commino and #Malta. Nadur is know as a fruit growing district of the island and November is a period of delicious pomegranate and oranges so there was plenty in his house
