Walking around Caminito, Buenos Aires´ most colorful street.

Today I want to share some photos of a walk I did recently around Caminito, the most touristy (and colorful) street of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Caminito is one of the most classic walks of the city of Buenos Aires and one of its main attractions. With its typical "conventillos" which are communal houses, it is also an open-air museum of almost 150 meters of length.

It is located in the neighborhood of La Boca, in the area known as Vuelta de Rocha, in front of the Riachuelo shore. Caminito is located 400 meters from "La Bombonera", the stadium of Club Atlético Boca Juniors.

The old railway line that you can still stroll closed in 1928. From the 50's a group of local artists decided to recover the area near the road and turn it into a pedestrian street by giving it the name Caminito for the famous tango by Gabino Coria Peñaloza and Juan de Dios Filiberto.

It receives thousands of tourists daily ... I would say it is a safe area, although the neighborhood of La Boca can be dangerous because of the robberies. This is why it is not recommended to carry valuables or tour the interior of the neighborhood.

The walk has been decorated with sculptures and murals by different artists. In 1959 Caminito was transformed into an open-air museum, where many painters of the neighborhood exhibited their works, which gave its touch so unique and characteristic.

In the area you will see this very particular houses, known as "Conventillos". These were the typical houses of the Italian immigrants who settled in the neighborhood. The houses are collective dwellings, many families live there sharing patios and kitchens.

The quality of life is not very good inside the conventillos. The material used for the construction of the houses were the zinc plates, the same ones were painted with the leftovers of the paintings of the near workshops. Today the tradition of painting the houses with different colors is still valid, and it is what gives the place its identity.

The fact that it is a tourist area causes many street artists and street vendors to settle in the area. Many sell typical products of the country like the famous Mate, T-shirts of the soccer clubs, etc. Lots of people making music, dancing tango, among other things.

Something that caught my attention was the dogs dressed in football shirts ... very funny: D
Football in Argentina is a passion for crowds, everyone knows that, but I did not know that this passion was in our canine friends as well.
