Christmas time in London

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I was lucky enough to spend a Christmas past in London and was dreaming upon it today. I hopefully will have another London Christmas in my future, but we shall see what the future holds.

It was a lovely season and you could spend hours just looking at all the window dressings. My love of all things Deer and stage made me adore this display.

Every day and night going through Trafalgar Square, you never knew what you would see. One night a group of carolers were singing my favourite Christmas toon: Ding Dong merrily on High.

Another night, someone in a Scrooge mask was mixing his wax and the sound of the city and Christmas spirit melded into a modern cacophony.

St. Martins in the Fields cathedral is also a fun spot during this time of year. And a hot cuppa and some mince pies in the crypt cafe is a must on a cold Winter night. (although it was a rather warm Winter)

Window shopping in the various Arcades is almost as much fun as getting a gift from these posh window displays. The lights and noise of the city and the endless over priced fares are a sight to behold.

In the distance you can see the then current installation statue of an equestrian skeleton on the 4th plinth by the german artist, Hans Haacke It's ribbon was lit up and was eerie across the fountain.

The Sherlock Holmes pub was always good for a laugh, the Christmas celebrants having their fags on the street.

And of course, enjoying the city for a few months, one of my daily dos was having a coffee and fag outside St. James Cathedral on Piccadilly. Watching the traffic go by or catching a great free concert every Wednesday in the Cathedral.

Yes, I'm happy to be in the country and on the sea for This Christmas, but I am definitely, on today's snowy day, dreaming of that warm Winter I spent in London.

So, here is to a good day to you, may it be filled with happy memories of Christmas past and hopeful joys to the coming one. Have a fag and a coffee and imagine the sounds of carolers and city folk mingling in the background.
