No Cruise By Summer

in #travel4 years ago (edited)

More cruise lines have made plans to cancel summer sailings to places like Alaska, Japan, around the Caribbean, Australia, and other regions.

Princess Cruises and Holland America Line Announce Cancellations.

The cruise companies might have wanted to get back to business but they have cited continuing travel restrictions as the main reason for extending its suspension of those cruises. With port closures around the world and flights cancelled for domestic and international travel to a large extent still, for non-essential travel, they really had no choice but to call it quits for those cruise vacations.

Along with Princess and Holland America, Carnival Cruise Line has also made cancellations, though Carnival has revealed plans to resume services for some ships and ports in the US by August. The cruise lines might be ready to take passengers, but how are they going to get there? Many of them are still restricted from traveling and will need to also wait on the government for the approval to continue with their cruise plans as usual.

Each of these cruise ships helps to bring in millions of dollars to the local economies that they visit and there are many jobs and businesses that will continue to suffer until more freedom can be injected into the travel industry in general, less restrictions to come about.

Cruise ship operators are going to have to continue to extend this recent pause in operations until those ports open back up and flights can resume for many. Some suspect that those changes might be coming by fall, perhaps July or August at the very least.
