Terracotta Horse Army of Darbargadh Poshina

I visited Poshina in the year 2015 with few of my friends, its a place located at the Rajasthan - Gujarat border. The main attraction of this interior village is its palace, a nearby lake and its terracotta horse army. These horses are made by local tribal artisans and the story goes like this - In the olden days horse sacrifice was a very common thing among the tribals of Poshina but over the period of time there were no horses left for sacrifice but the sacrifice ritual has to be done, so in order to avoid the wrath of their deity the tribals came up with the idea of terracotta horses which their deity readily accepted. This is the best i could remember.

About the Rulers Of Poshina

The rulers of Poshina were descendants of the Chalukyas, who ruled much of Gujarat and Central India in the 12th century. The Darbargadh was once the pride of the Chalukya dynasty. This palace has huge gateways, a massive dome, numerous pillars and arches. It offers pleasant courtyards, gardens, lawns, shady trees and terraces with views of the Arravalli mountains. Ancient fort walls and the old prison are reminders of the property‘s history.

The Lake View

There is a very small area near the lake which is utilized as the lake side dinner party area. The lake is surrounded by the hill. There is also a tribal temple at the top of the hill. Adventure lovers can go up to the top, the path is hard and rocky and very steep we came back from the half way mark but the locals have a very good practice of going up and coming down

Ambaji is 30 Km and Mount Abu is 50 Km from Poshina
