Vilnius - wonderful city

in #travel8 years ago

Sometimes I had several visits a year to Vilnius. But still I have never regretted the trip, never I was bored. It's an amazing city! It is always different. And no matter how long you would walk its streets, Vilnius will always show something new, open itself with an unusual side.

It is a city of many eras and timeless.

Modern architecture is very organically fit into the old quarters of the city, without compromising the integrity of the picture.

It feels that the residents love their city. The city has a rich history.

Now - it is the capital of sovereign Lithuania. But the Poles, Belarusians, Russian as well consider it their city, connecting with it their pages of history.
The first mention of Vilnius as its capital city and made Gedemin in 1363, he moved the capital from a small Trakai, not satisfied already growing state. But apparently the city was founded much earlier. Since then Vilnius became one of the centers of European politics and culture. In 1387 the city received Magdeburg Law. From 1579 he became one of the centers of student life, establishing the first university.

During its existence, the city changed hands many times, he was repeatedly captured. Notable: Russian, French, Germans, Poles, Soviet. In 1939, Stalin gave Vilnius to Lithuania, selecting it from Poland, and ... joined the Soviet Union.
After the proclamation of Lithuanian independence, the city flourished. Preservation of historical monuments is impressive

You can spend a lot of time to get around all muuseums of the small (about 550 thousand population) by modern standards city.

Religious toleration allowed to create and save the city a lot of great temples, churches and monasteries.

Town atmosphere creates a mood of calm and freedom.

Interesting point. The city has a quarter, which declared itself a republic with its own flag, anthem, constitution and the like even with a small army numbering 12 people.
Here are short excerpts from the Constitution of Uzupis (Zarechanskoy Republic):
Everyone has the right to be the one and only ...

Everyone has the right to die, but is not required ...

Everyone has the right to be lazy and do nothing ...

Everyone has the right to love and take care of the cat ...

Everyone has the right to take care of the dog for the rest of one of them ...

The dog has the right to be a dog ...

A cat is not obliged to love its master, but in difficult times is obliged to come to his aid ...

Everyone has the right to be happy ...

Everyone has the right to celebrate or not to celebrate his birthday ...

Everyone can share what it has ...

No one can share what has not ...

Everyone can be free ...

Everyone has the right to be an individual ...

Everyone has the right to have no rights ...

Everyone has the right not to be afraid.

And this is the whole Vilnius, the one and only! Amazing city.
