Welcome to my Travel Blog Series! This is a collection of my travels & adventure photos and stories that I have kept throughout the years. Some are old school and some are current but they are wonderful memories nonetheless.
This is my second sequel of my Ilocos Norte Trip. You can check this sequel here. This time we’re going to check out a Spanish tower, rock formations and one of the oldest churches in the Philippines.
Kapurpurawan Rock Formation
Science and nature combined can create a wonderful masterpiece. One of the best examples of this masterpiece is the Kapururawan Rock Formation, which is in Burgos.
Rock Formation is an artistic and picturesque surface of a rock, which is due to the corrosion and weathering of an existing rock. This famed rock formation gets hit by strong waves coming from the Bangui Bay, which became one of the factors why and how this masterpiece came to be.
“Puraw,” is an Ilocano term, which means white. This is why it’s called Kapurpurawan because the rock formation’s color is pretty white and bright in broad daylight.
Going to the place requires you to hike going there but if you don’t want to that’s fine. They have horses available for you to ride to take you there. At the present time, tourists are no longer allowed to climb around the rock formation to make sure that that the area can be preserved for a long time. Fortunately, we weren’t restricted to do so when we went there but I didn’t get to go on top but my one of my friends did. :)
Burgos Lighthouse
Brief History
Under the Spanish colonization, the lighthouse was first lighted on the 30th of March 1982. It is nestled at the pinnacle of a hill called Vigia De Nagparitan, which gives a charming view of Cape Bojeador. It also functions as a signal that signifies that the boats or ships have crossed the Philippine Territory.
Paoay Church
Another historic structure is the Paoay Church. My fret and I have seen the church featured in some movies and we definitely would not want to miss and check out this place. I was just mesmerized to see how such an old structure still looks so lively and majestic when you see it with your own eyes. It’s unquestionable why it has been amongst the Baroque Churches that was recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
Church’s Architecture
What makes this church very significant is its architecture. It has been built for about 307 years and the church’s structure is based on the earthquakes happening in the country. They thought of this since there were a lot of churches in the country that have been destroyed because of such phenomenon.
The best solution that they have thought of preventing it is constructing 24 huge buttresses that they have attached at the exterior walls of the church. These buttresses have a thickness of about five feet.
Buttresses- this is a structure created against the wall to give support on a particular building
The whites of the rock formation look like snow from afar. Pretty cool shapes! Shame they closed it all off. Are there still paths that go onto part of the rock?
I know it is sad. ^^ Yes saw it from recent post there's still a path to go to up there.
Is that you and your boyfriend in the picture Dawny? Cheers!
Lol that's one my frets. ^^
