DTube - The Most Beautiful Waterfall in Laos - Kuang Si

Kuang Si Waterfalls!

Most people that can point to the country of Laos on a world map could probably tell you that the main attraction in the country is a waterfall.

They've seen all manner of photos and videos of it on the facespace and the instatwitters from the travel pages that pay to promote their posts. They may have even seen their not so distant friend who took a gap year post a selfie with it (I'm guilty of this too).

Kuang Si waterfalls are truly stunning. Different times of the year make it look either a deep robin's egg blue, or a torrent of rushing rainwater. My twin brother, Joe, and I got there during the rainy season (Summer) so we got to look at brown water, but we didn't really care. It is so worth coming here despite it.

What the falls look like in the dry season

To get to the falls, you start in the town of Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and worth seeing on its own. It's easy to get a shared taxi from the town center or a shuttle from your hostel, if you like sharing rooms. It's about 30 kms from town. Once there, you pay a small entrance fee to the park (around $2 per person).

The first thing you will see in the park is the Asian black bear rescue center where you can view and photograph the bears that have been rescued from poaching and other atrocities. You can choose to leave a donation to help keep that operation running.

Not far down the path is the cascades and pools to swim in with the big falls right behind that. Take lots of photos, swim in the pools, jump off the log, climb the cascades. It's a ball! I recommend going further along the path to get to the top of the main falls. It's a jungle up there and a lot of fun to explore. Be careful on your way up and down because if it's muddy, you may slip.

Spend at least a couple hours here if not more. Pack a lunch (or buy food at the entrance). Bring a LaoBeer (some of the best in Asia, imho). Say hello to the local crowd (they love a smile and a "Sabaidee").

Definitely put this place on your list in Southeast Asia.

Have you heard of Kuang Si before? Let me know in the comments.

Great place It looks a bit risky because people may slip but it doesn't matter I love this kind of visit. During the dry season I suppose it should be more crowded than the wet one

You are correct. It is more crowded in the drier season.

You know, I can point to Laos on a map and I can even tell you how to get to parts of it by train...but I actually didn't know about these falls. I want to go during Robin's egg blue time!!

But would you say that you're like most people? 😉

Lol hmm... I don't think I am
