Wrocław in a Snapshot

I was hoping to post regular blogs from my travel to Wrocław. After arriving there and meeting my friendly family I realized I will probably not get enough sleep for the next couple of weeks, let alone get enough time for blogging. :)

Wrocław is a very beautiful, lively and colourful city. Last time I visited it was 1996 and I was 11 years old. I fell in love with it and visiting 21 years later reaffirmed my feelings.

As you stroll through town you can see some beautiful, colourful old houses, then you turn around a corner or look in the opposite direction to be faced with some modern, shiny building. Sky tower, the tallest skyscraper in Poland pops in the view from behind old architecture.

The atmosphere of the city is that of an never ending party. With many beer gardens sticking out onto the roads and summer festival on the market square you get a sense of leisure and fun.

Artists must consider this place a heaven. Almost in every corner there hides a mural, a sculpture, a gnome or some other piece of art. Behind the giant chair hides a mural on the corner of a building. It's hard to decide where to point your camera.

Wrocław is located on the Odra river and you can stroll through small islands connected by bridges. One of them became a hub for socialising. It's green area attracts young people who gather here for a smoke, drink and what not. It's overlooking the river and its beautifully lit up banks.

As you walk through town you might turn into a small gate or lane to find another corner breathtakingly celebrating art, diversity and culture like the neons and murals just off Szewska street.

Wrocław is a truly European city, cosmopolitan, diverse and lively. The culture of openness and multiculturalism is celebrated by a pretty sculpture of a dancer wearing the earth for her skirt.

There are also Wrocław gnomes! All 300 of them, hidden in street corners, trams, cafés and other places some touristy and some not! It's hard not to fall in love with this city!
