Balnakeil Craft Village & Cocoa Mountain

After our plan to visit Cape Wrath changed, due to bad weather, we had to come up with a new one. We did so over a mug of delicious mocha and some mouth watering, hand made pralines, in Cocoa Mountain, in Balnakeil Craft Village.

First time I visited this place was just over a year ago, in the Spring of 2016. Balnakeil Craft Village was created from a disused military camp. Empty bunkers were transformed into small art studios, shops, cafés and other attractions.

It's a real pleasure to stroll from one little place to another and chatting to friendly artists working in their studios. I really enjoyed the Mudness Ceramics selling ceramics, hand painted silk scarves and woven rugs. Some of their ceramics are left outside so you can have a look even when the shop is closed.

Many of the bunkers around the village are painted, adding colour and fun to the place.

This time, I made sure to visit Phil's Art Gallery. Phil produces artwork made of found objects and discarded materials. Each piece has a unique quality.

Every single one of the artworks is inspired by the shape and colour of the object.

Artist added small, hand written descriptions to each piece.

Some of the artworks are large and others really small. Each is very expressive and almost seems to be alive.

If you ever get a chance to visit North West of Scotland be sure to pop in to this charming and unique place, even if just for a quick cup of hot chocolate. :)

Scotland! Deal! I'll drink Nessie under the table ;-)

You'll have to drink her under the Loch. She won't fit under the table.

Love the photos! Nice work @dana-varahi!
