Where I live.......Norwich......A fine city...Todays post is Norwich Cathedral

Following on from my post regarding Norwich Castle I decided to visit and share with you the wonderful Norwich Cathedral.

The iconic Norwich Cathedrak was built in 1096 and constructed out of rock and mortar and finished with a cream-hued Caen limestone. The Cathedral was finished in 1145 with the Norman pinnacle still observed today finished with a wooden tower secured with lead. The remaking of the east end and tower built after the last erection of the stone tower in 1480 there have been couple of essential adjustments to the texture.

Norwich Cathedral has the second biggest orders in England, just surpassed by those at Salisbury Cathedral. The house of God close is one of the biggest in England and one of the biggest in Europe and has a larger number of individuals living inside it than some other close. The house of prayer tower, estimating at 315 ft (96 m), is the second-tallest in England notwithstanding being somewhat modified subsequent to being struck by lightning in 1169, only 23 months after its fruition, which prompted the building being determined to flame. Estimating 461 ft (141 m) long and, with the transepts, 177 ft (54 m) wide at fulfillment, Norwich Cathedral was the biggest working in East Anglia.

Before visiting the Cathedral we had luch at the Glasshouse pub. The Cathedral can be seen from the car park.

Walking up Norwich's historic street "Tombland" the impressively large entrance to cathedral can be seen. My little girl thought it looked awesome and had great fun going up and down outside on her hoverboard.

As soon as you walk through the archway entrance the size and magnitude of the Cathedral can really be appreciated.

As you can see my little girl had lots of space in the grounds to hoverboard up and down.

We found a quaint little herb garden tucked around the side of the Cathedral.

Great fun for exploring and appreciating the different herbs the garden has to offer.

Outside there are numerous statues of people of importance to teh Cathedral, Norwich and religious figures.

Some remains of the old infirmary can still be seen.

If the outside wasn't impressive enough then the inside defiantly pleases the eye. The cloysters is a massive square corridor type hall with a grass centre with a labrynth inside (sadly closed at this time of year as the grass churns with high traffic walkinga cross it. This defiantly reminded me of scenes from the Harry Potter Quandragle.

Inside the main building of the Cathedral is tall with grand architecture. It is amazing the level of skill it would have taken to complete such a magnificent building.

The Cathedral has an enormous organ which can be seen in the picture below. We were lucky enough to visit as they were warming the organs up in preperation for this afternoons service. The sound is as impressive as the organ looks and echos throughout the Cathedral and accoustics bounce off the high rooms creating a great ambience.

Dotted around the Cathedral are various prayer reading spots where you can write your prayer whilst lighting a candle. The prayers are read out during service by the priest.

We took the time to write a prayer for a departed loved one and lit a candle.

We came across this font which has the unsual background of starting it's life in a local Norwich chocolate factory before being presented to the Cathedral when the factory ceased trading.

There were various prayer rooms around the Cathedral which are open to the public to look around and admire the architecture

After a good amount of walking around the large Cathedral we decided to take 15 minutes out to have some tea in the Refectory Cafe.

On the way out we bought my daughter a small medallion so she had a keepsake of the day

Ive been to the Cathedral many time in the past for various occasions such as playing in the school band Christmas Carol concerts and also my graduation ceremony was at the Cathedral. But today was different as I had the time to take in the beauty of the place with my family and we all had a really nice day.
