Travel Tip: Prague Astronomical Clock, one of the oldest functioning clocks in the world

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I will show you one of the most iconic and photographed landmarks of Prague, the famous Prague Astronomical Clock.

Mounted on the southern wall of the Old Town Hall located on the Old Town Square in the historic center of Prague, the Prague Astronomical Clock is a beautifully decorated medieval atronomical clock whose origins date back to 1410.
Throughout its more than 600-year old history, the clock has been modified, damaged and repaired many times but it always emerged fully functioning again, even after being damaged by German soldiers during the World War II.

There are many myths and legends surrounding the clock with the most famous one having that when the clock stops running for good, the country will be thrown into war, decline and suffering.

Whether the legend is true or not, tourists from all over the world love the Prague Astronomical Clock as masses of them gather in front of the Old Town Hall every hour to see the fascinating display with the Apostles, the Death and other figures moving inside the clock.
If you want to enjoy this spectacle more closely, you can book a ticket to the Old Town Hall and watch the performance directly from the tower.

First of all this clock is a peace of art and a marvelous creation of science and architecture and the fact that it’s still running even after being damaged by the german soldiers and facing different times weather,just goes to show how much mind and effort was put while creating this, it’s just fascinating and jaw dropping,the art and features on it are very beautiful and the myths and story surrounding it is very interesting and i hope it never stops working.thanks for sharing this marvelous creation and now i know soo much about prague where i wanna go because of you. Keep it up.

Such intricate detail in the clock. I would love to have seen the artists and engineers working on this when it was created. Let's hope the clock doesn't stop running!
It's been running for 600 years so I hope it will do another 600 at least:).....
Guess the Clock is a mystery then. About the clock not working again and country thrown to war. As an African, it may not just be a myth but a peace bonding clock. History are written down for us to guide our path. This modern society, we are more of pragmatic, we love to see evidence but peace continue be unto Czech
