One of the most famous Czech Castles - Karlstejn!steemCreated with Sketch.

Hello fellow steemians,

Another amazing location that you should put on your list when visiting the Czech Republic during your vacation is one of the most famous Czech castles - Karlstejn Castle. It was founded by Czech king and Holy Roman emperor Charles IV in 1348, the same year when the king founded Prague's New Town and Charles University. The castle was built to hold the royal treasures and coronation jewels of the Roman Empire, and served as the king's retreat. The Czech coronation jewels were kept there for almost 200 years during and after the Hussite wars in the 15th and 16th century. The castle was originally built in the Gothic style and reconstructed in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. Karlstejn stands on a hill surrounded by other hills, so it cannot be seen until you get very close. This clever strategy has paid off. Since it is impossible to see the castle from afar (and thanks to its thick walls), it was never conquered in the past.

Really easy and inexpensive way to get to Karlstejn is by using train service. The journey takes about 40 minutes and cost around 3USD. If you are interested in more in depth information about Karlstejn Castle you can check the following link: https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl%C5%A1tejn.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about your upcoming travels to Prague and the Czech Republic. Have a great evening everyone.

Hi @Czechglablhosts! My interest in Czech Republic started after reading Milan Kundera's "Unbearable Lightness of Being". Since then, Czech Republic - specifically Prague- has been been on my list of places to visit. It's nice to know that there are other interesting places in Czech Republic that is a must-see. The sight of the castle above the village is quite breathtaking. Thank you for sharing this.
