Last summer I travelled around South America and on my way from Bolivia to Chile, I visited the Laguna Hedionda where I took this photo of feeding flamingos. The Laguna Hedionda is a small salt lake in the Andean altiplano, located at over 4000 meters above sea level and known for its variety of pink and white flamingos.

7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge - Australian Monday week #74 - winner announcement!

@gunnarheilmann Australian Monday entry:

This Boab Tree is located just a few kilometers from Emma Gorge at El Questro on Gibb River Road in Western Australia. There is no Light Polution at all.
On of the hotest nights i ever spent Light Painting. 39.5° C 2AM - impossible to sleep full on sweaty sleeping on the car in the middle of f-ing nowhere. Anyhow the photo was totally worth it. This Boab Tree was so impressive and also noisy. What you cant see nor hear are all the frogs that were sitting in that tree. So cool. What you see here is a 40sec. exposure and i run with my colored flash lights towards the tree and shine at the ground first then the tree second. If you look closely you can also see my feet. I think it adds some organic texture and makes it more real than just some photoshopped effect. FYI > The huge bright spot next to the tree is not the moon. That is Saturn!

This was taken at Maligne Lake last summer. The forest fires going on made it a little hazy but the trip to Spirit Island was definitely worth it! Make sure you book your boat tickets in advance!

A panoramic view of the coast of Antofagasta, a city in the north of Chile. At the centre of the image you can see the silhouette of Cerro Moreno, one of the main mountains in the area.
As you can observe the sun is at left of the image and my shadow is at the right, this gives an idea of the angle of this panoramic photo.

The sunset on Titicaca lake. The meaning of the name is uncertain but it has been variously translated as “Rock of the Puma” or “Crag of Lead”. Titi=Puma, Caca=Gray. This lake is amazing and a boat tour is a must. The people who live on man made reed islands, the descendants of the Moors who came to Peru with the Spanish as slaves. Well worth a day of exploration.

Monday falls, Paraguay

Paraguay is far off from the tourist trail in South America, rarely anyone visits this beautiful country. The Monday falls are located near Ciudad del Este, close to the world-famous Iguazu Falls.

I have also posted this photo on my blog.

Potosí, Bolivia was built at the foot of the Cerro Rico ("Rich Mountain") in 1545, a mountain of silver that dominates the city. For nearly 60 years, Europe will benefit from this precious metal that the Spanish exploited. Unfortunately, the silver was extracted by the forced labor of the Indians and thousands of them died of respiratory problems due to dust in the mines or blocked in them after landslides.
In this picture, we see the Church of San Lorenzo, in the Plaza de Armas, just next to La Casa de la Moneda, where the Potosí money was made. A must do visit!

Playa Mansa, is one of the places I love to visit, when I want to disconnect from the bustle of the city, because as its name says, the stillness of its marine waters, always inspire me to relax and quiet my mind. This is a place, also very visited for its beautiful sunsets. It is located in the city of Lecherias, Anzoátegui state, Venezuela.
