Israel & the Palestinian Territories in 35mm (PART 2)
Walking through the squeeze that is Jerusalem's walled city, can be an alarming experience. In the Arabic Quarter kids openly play with sinister looking guns, that mimic the modern assault rifles used in shootings across the globe. It is damaging to the Palestinian cause but in retrospect, I grew up imagining imagining conflicts between Plastic Native Americans and Cowboy's and too played war-games with pellet guns. It is fair to say my knowledge of how insensitive toys can be was fairly limited. These young Muslims are children, the guns are toys and regardless of the society around them, this image should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Conflict loom's around each corner, but the streets are alive by day with a rich echo of different tongues and children singing and playing ancient games. It feels like nothing much has changed here in a 1000 years, besides the installation of many satellite dishes.
Three men play a game of backgammon in the afternoon heat and smoke cigarettes. I wonder how long they've been doing this and quietly move on.
A Jewish man and a Catholic Nun wait side by side for Jerusalem's single tram service.
This mother of these kittens enjoyed the Tuna I fed them every morning of our stay. I love animals, particularly strays and almost always burn through an entire roll of film every time I come across a cat or a dog.
An Orthodox Jewish man observes the markets offering in Tel Aviv.
100 meters from the market, the modern world waits, revellers enjoy the Mediterranean Sea and the beautiful beaches on a scorching day.
A couple to be have a pre-wedding photoshoot in the ruins of the Roman city Caesarea.
From the top of Masada, the morning star rises over the Dead Sea.
Masada is an ancient fortress in southern Israel’s Judean Desert. It's on a massive plateau overlooking the Dead Sea. A cable car and a long, winding path climb up to the fortifications, built around 30 B.C. Among the ruins are King Herod's Palace, which sprawls over 3 rock terraces, and a Roman-style bathhouse with mosaic floors.
A trek in the Golan Heights found this reminder of the instability that is consuming both Israelis and Palestinians in this rich and holy corner of the world.
I hope you enjoyed this article and photo's. Everything was shot using a Pentax k1000 and Porta 400 film/ Kodak B&W 200.
Re-steem and Upvote if you like and leave a comment. I'll be glad to reply.

Thanks, @cottonlazarus, I enjoyed these photos which gave me a better insight into daily life in that part of the world we tend to see only when there's bad news. Am fascinated you took them using film :-). Upvoted and followed.
Thank you @kiligirl - Film is magical, I try and do a mix of both. I don't have enough Steem yet to shoot entirely on film. Was in Barcelona recently and made a film in super 8mm. Will post when its been processed x
Look forward to it! I loved Barcelona when I visited there...in 1996 :-). Cheers!
What a beautiful backdrop for wedding photos.

Photos will certainly be in the next edition of DPS @cottonlazarus, but please put the link to the Part 1 in your post so that people could find you easily when your post gets more than a month old. I would also like to know when you were taking that pictures?
Thanks a million, added in that link :) Took these photos in 2012.
Thank you for this very informative post. It gave me an interesting sight into that place from where I often heard, read and saw lot of things, but where I've never been myself.
You are welcome. It's a fantstic place to explore. Have a great day!
