Grasshopper Guacamole & Ant Tacos
What's for dinner?
Grasshopper guacamole, grasshopper and ant egg tacos & tamarind margaritas!
One of the best meals of my life at Axiote Cocina de Mexico.
I discovered this little restaurant at Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I didn’t know what to expect but I’m always curious. The flavours were incomparable and unique. It turns out that the chef of Axiote, Xavier Pérez Stone is one of the world’s best. He wanted to create this little, hidden jewel of a restaurant that is affordable and serves traditional Mayan-Mexican heritage cuisine. What an experience! Who knew grasshoppers taste like crunchy shrimp. Delicious!
I've actually tried different insects before - as my friends ordered them online from Thailand... it was OK, they tasted like jerky - not too impressive... but i would love to them freshly made in a restaurant :)
Yes. I’ve also had insects from Malaysia and posted an article on here about eating scorpions in Beijing which was a bit creepy because how do you really know they cooked it hot enough to kill the venomous poison in the tail aaahhh. But I do think we’re missing a lot of protein and vitamins by not eating these in our cultures.
Well, I have heard shrimps (we say prawns) described as the cockroaches of the sea.
Grasshoppers... might take me a while to give it a go. 8|
The first time I ate grasshoppers was at an Australian restaurant in Vienna. They are very yummy. 😎
They were having a joke on you, NO ONE in Australia eats grasshoppers.
No way!!!! That’s hilarious! It was a special appetizer for kangaroo! Lol
You should not be surprised. We are a nation of jokers. For instance the following are a list of questions and answers that were actually posted on the Australian Tourism website.

BTW, hardly anyone eats kangaroos... again, that is not typical Australian food. ;-)
