Assateague Island – on a mission to find peace …

When you live in a big city, around that busyness that never stops, among people who constantly talk about work and money, you just want to run and get away from all of that… Or maybe it’s just me…

Assateague Island is the good place to recharge and rethink your life, especially when you feel stuck. I love to come here. It’s just 3 hours drive from Washington DC and 10mins from Ocean City, Maryland. There are usually not a lot of people around, pretty quiet and if you are lucky enough you can see wild horses, they live on that island. We didn’t get that lucky this time, but I’ve seen them many times in the past. Some of the pictures of the wild horses you can find HERE.

Anyways, you can come and camp here for couple of days, fishing is also allowed. Or you can just hang out at the beach like we did, and enjoy the ocean and the sun. I walked for like an hour near the ocean shore, closed my eyes from time to time to fully experience the ocean breeze, it’s a good feeling…

They also have kayaking services here. Rentals are available seasonally. Bring your bicycle, cyclists may travel to Assateague over a bicycle-pedstrian bridge.

I also did some yoga practice; yoga on the beach is the best, try it sometimes, especially when there are no people around… Ocean and yoga – what can be better…

When we left Assateague Island – we headed to Ocean City, to my favorite beach bar on the Boardwalk – Hammerheads, I used to work there back in 2006, when came to US by international exchange program “Work&Travel” for the first time. It was great times with no problems back then…
Anyways, they have the best “Crushes” for only $8 (Lemon, Grapefruit, Orange, all of them fresh squeezed and mixed with Vodka), delicious! Don’t miss out!
