Woah, that's good to know. And there's a community, too - nomads or expats or whatever, right? How's the internet?
Would you say it's a Chiang Mai at the beach? That's what I'm looking for (all of us, I guess.. ;))
I'll stay in CM until end of Feb, I think, but then I'll still have 2.5 months before I'm going home. So maybe I'll see you there :)
It's not as touristy as Chiang Mai but there are lots of expats at the hostel and the beach. The internet is awesome here and there's lots of good food. The food is different than in Thailand, not as spicy. The coffee here is really strong. The beach is beautiful and there are many day trips around like the Golden Bridge.
There's also Money Mountain and Marble Mountain.
The weather here is not as hot, around 25-30 C

Flights seem to be weird though - you can't get there in one day from CM? I see prices are around $170 one way (in March). Maybe with a day in Bangkok in between it gets cheaper. Anyway, I'll figure it out. Thanks for all the tips :)
I flew on the 1st of January with a layover in BKK for $140 on airasia. Left at 7:30 and was here by 13:00
On the first of January at 7.30am????? What did you do on New Year's eve? :D
Partie all night in Chiang Mai. Just stayed up all night at the Pirate bar, like pirates.
