A recent study of the student accommodation reservation service Uniplaces.es reveals the cost of living in 15 European cities with an average budget of 500 euros per month, which includes the basic expenses of accommodation, food and transportation.

In our Old Continent, there are many differences around the average cost of living according to the city in which we find ourselves. In order to find those cheaper places to reside, Uniplaces has developed a study of the average cost of living per month in various European epicenters. The portal recommends that the cost of accommodation does not exceed 30% of the monthly budget.

The best and the worst cities in the world to live

At the most expensive end, the British capital takes the cake. London is the most expensive city, with an average cost of living per month that amounts to a whopping 1,124 euros, followed by others such as Paris, where every 30 days you could spend an average of 915 euros and Milan, with 906 euros of half.

Budapest, Prague and Porto, the cheapest in Europe

The analysis of Uniplaces indicates that Budapest is the cheapest city in Europe to live, with an average cost of 360 euros. This is followed by the Czech Prague (403) and the Portuguese Oporto (409).

Specifically, in Budapest renting a room in a shared apartment has an average cost of 249 euros, taking half of the budget of 500 euros to live. The same happens in Porto, since in the second most famous city in Portugal we should allocate 52% of the mentioned economic amount.

In other cities, the percentage with respect to 500 euros rises if we talk about rent: in Warsaw we would spend 58% and in Lisbon 61%. Barcelona and Madrid are the most expensive, since in Barcelona there are 405 paid in a shared house and in the capital we would spend 85% of the rent budget. In Berlin, 92%.

Uniplaces note that in a handful of European cities exceed the 500 euros on average to rent a room in a shared apartment: in addition to London, also happens in Brussels, Amsterdam, Milan, Paris and Munich.

To make the purchase: Porto, Prague and Warsaw

In Warsaw and Oporto we would spend an average of 120 euros a month on eating, less than in Lisbon or Berlin, with 160 (32% of the budget). In Prague we would only spend 80 euros per month, 16%. In the case of Budapest, 20%.

London is also the most expensive with regard to food, since 68% of the 500 euros would come in this part. The average round 300 euros per month in expensive places like Milan, Rome, Amsterdam and Brussels. For the 200 Madrid and Barcelona walk, an expense that implies 40% of the monthly budget, below Paris (56%) and Munich (48%).

Finally, in Brussels, Prague, Munich, Budapest and Warsaw, the average cost of transport per month is 12 euros, followed by Milan, Paris, Porto, Madrid, Rome, Berlin, Lisbon, Barcelona, ​​Amsterdam and London, as well as more expensive. In it, a subscription costs around 104 euros.

The conclusion of Uniplaces is that the only places where we could survive with 500 euros monthly budget are Lisbon, Porto, Prague, Budapest and Warsaw.
