Jen’s Travelogue — Nami Island, Petite France and Garden of the Morning Calm

My winter plan is to visit South Korea. As I blogged about it here
I’m not keen for super cold weather, but for this trip, I made an exception.

My second day plan in South Korea was to visit Nami Island and its surrounding. The first day was not fun as it was the day I arrived; making way from the airport to the guesthouse that took more than I expected, fast forward we do not have anymore energy for our late night sightseeing as planned.

Nami Island/ Naminara Republic

So after the much-needed rest, the next morning plan was to visit Nami Island or also known as Naminara Republic a Micronation focusing on tourism activities. Naminara was built in 2006 and was a famous Korean movie set called ‘Winter Sonata’. Naminara Republic or Namisun has its own flag, coins, and tourist is required to visa-on-arrival to get in. It is a fun place to be. I visited Naminara in 2009, the place has changed a lot with a lot of shops and fun activities like ‘zip ride’ available for the tourist particularly with the high influx of tourist in Naminara which is expected around 1.5million annually but that is for 2011 number.

The place is so beautiful for a walk, minus the degree.. it was a chilling -9degree at night when I was there! Hello, my tolerance at -1degree only and I don’t pack/have that kind of clothes. sigh

Petite-France
Petite-France is a small France village at Gapyeong, Korea for a few K-drama set. It has a lot of colorful buildings and photo-worthy-places.
It has a lot of rooms with different themes you can enjoy.

Garden of the Morning Calm
Garden of the Morning Calm is a private-owned 8.5 Acre garden open to public which hosted a 5,000 species of plants. Since it is winter time, I was made to understand that it is much worth it to visit at night. Not a lot of flowers bloom during this season.

I’m dead serious about the weather. Look at my reddish nose.. and that girl’s cheeks! Hehe

At night it is the festival of colorful lights.
