Trip Report: Highest Festival in the world Markahuasi Festival in Peru 1/2
Hello Steemians!!!
About 3 months ago, I made a post saying that I will make a trip report about the highest (4200 M.S.N.M) festival in the world that I went to in Peru. I didn't forget about it and here it is!!
This festival takes place in a place called Marcahuasi or also called the stone forest. To get there, you need to get on a colectivo from Lima and get to a town in the valley called Chosica.
Then you take a bus up the mountains to a small town Called San Pedro de Casta all the way up in the mountains. Which was a crazy drive that took about 3 hours of non stop climb up the elevation.

Amazing View
What I thought amazing was that the higher we went and closer we got to San Pedro de Casta, more green and naturely it got. There were butterflies and flowers at elevation of close to 4000meters.
Once you get to San Pedro De Casta, you need to hike your way up to Markahuasi. You can hire a donkey to help you carry your stuff up the mountain. I met some amigos who are going to the same festival so we decided to split the cost of the donkey.

The hike up the mountain was the most physically challenging thing I have done. I am not out of shape by no means but the thin air and the steep incline was a lot more straining to my body than I thought. But the views made it all worth it. It was definitely one of the most breathtaking view that I have ever seen.

Breathtaking View
And once the terrain starts very rocky, that's when you know that you made it to the stone forest! Some people say that they see faces in these rocks.
Do You See Any Faces in Them?
After some more hiking through some very rocky terrains, we found the festival! It was such a relief since I was so very very tired. :P
