From Hurghada in March to Fuerteventura in November, these budget sunshine breaks all offer accommodation for under £40 a night

CAN'T stand the thought of the cold nights drawing in?
Summer has been and gone, but that doesn't mean all thoughts of sun, sea and sand need to be a distant memory.

Western Algarve: If you don't fancy a chilly October in the UK, head to Portugal for some Autumn sun

There are plenty of sunny spots around the globe year round that don't have to break the bank.

Sun Online Travel has put together a month-by-month guide to where in the world you can find the best weather.

From Hurghada in March to Fuerteventura in November, these budget sunshine breaks all offer accommodation for under £40 a night.

January

Tenerife: January is the perfect month to grab some winter sun. Choose any of the Canary Islands for guaranteed good weather

For some post Christmas sun, grab your swimmers and head straight for the Canary Islands – this cluster of islands has beautiful weather all year round, but you’ll avoid the crowds this month.

Thanks to easyJet's new four-hour flight from London Southend, Gran Canaria is more accessible than ever.

Tenerife has high temperatures of 20C and along with Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria offers plenty of accommodation from self-catering apartments to budget hotels and bed and breakfasts from £14 per night.

Those with deep pockets that are looking for some long-haul winter sun should head to the Caribbean, where Barbados has average temperatures of 29.1C.

Elsewhere, Brazil, Australia and South Africa are wise choices for sun lovers in January, where the average temperatures are around 30 degrees, 27.4 degrees and 27 degrees respectively.

February

Fly long-haul to Cancun in Mexico in February for crystal-clear seas and endless sun

Avoid a freezing February by heading to the Caribbean coast of Mexico, where the average temperature during February according to the Met is 32.3 degrees.

Simple accommodation in Cancun is from £6 per night, while nearby Tulum offers basic beach huts in beautiful surroundings.

Auckland, New Zealand is another long-haul option - as February is its hottest month of the year, at 24.2 degrees on average.

Cape Verde is dubbed the 'African Caribbean' thanks to its sandy beaches and temperate climate

Closer to home, and a lot more wallet-friendly, Cape Verde offers climates of around 25 degrees in February.

Dubbed the 'African Caribbean' there's only a very slim chance of rain to boot - head to the islands of Sal and Boa Vista for the driest weather.

Prices for budget hotels start at around £37 according to Booking.com.

March

Egypt's second-largest city, Hurghada, is home to crystal-clear seas and colourful coral reefs

For March sunshine, Thailand is calling.

Phuket sees its hottest weather this month, with average daily maximums of 33.3 degrees.

Rainy season has yet to hit, so the popular sun spot sees just 159mm of rainfall over the course of the month.

But if scorching heat isn't your thing, head to Egypt's second-largest city, Hurghada, home of crystal-clear seas and colourful coral reefs.

Its desert climate ensures low rainfall during the month of March, and an average maximum temperature of 21.9 ºC.

eBookers offer rooms from £23 per night.

April

A traditional souk in the old Medina of Marrakesh, where the weather is fine in early summer

Escape April showers and head to the Marrakesh with its awe-inspiring rhiads and medinas, where average early summer temperatures are around 25.4 degrees.

Lastminute.com offers rooms from £14 per night.

Or, make like Madonna and head to Portugal. The pretty coastal city of Albufeira can reach temperatures of 20.7 degrees this months, and while nights can be cooler, this is one of Europe's sunniest regions with up to 8 hours of sunshine per day.

May

Thailand is the ideal May getaway for sun lovers with highs of 34.6 degrees

Taking a break before the summer holiday season gets into full swing can lead to some great offers.

Bangkok and Phuket are scorching at this time of year with soaring temperatures of up to 34.6 degrees.

The flights will set you back a fair amount but budget accommodation around Thailand in beach huts and apartments starts from just £3 per night and food and drink is eye-wateringly cheap.

June

View at the seaside cafe in the town of Sidi Bou Said, northern Tunisia

Tunisia sizzles in June, with average highs of 31 degrees and the prices are still rock bottom as hotels try to attract tourists following a tough couple of years.

Travel Republic is offering accommodation in Hammamet from just £13 a night.

In Europe, try Majorca as it sees some of its best weather just before the summer season explodes.

Average temperatures rise to around 23C in the last few days of the month and Travel Republic suggests rooms can cost as little as £15 per night.

July

The UK boasts miles and miles of coastal beauty, and Cornwall has arguably the best weather

Theoretically, the UK should be a warm weather haven with blue skies and miles of coastal beauty in July.

With that in mind, head to the Cornish coast, which gets our best weather in July - but you might not be alone when you hit the beach.

It's likely to be bulging with other holidaymakers enjoying the fine seafood, rock pools, surfing and cream teas.

The hotel prices aren't cheap but you'll be saving money on flights and currency conversion.

But if British summer time lets you down, don your grass skirt and jump on a plane to Hawaii, which sees average temperatures of 26 degrees - you'll need to be prepared to spend though.

August

Beautiful Cala Mitjaneta in Menorca - the perfect place for some August sun

If British weather isn't floating your boat in August, head to Menorca in the Balearic Islands.

Menorca's average temperature this month is a pleasant 25 degrees and while it certainly isn't quiet during the summer holidays, the island offers a less crowded getaway than its neighbours Majorca and Ibiza.

The island has a wide range of accommodation from self-catering apartments and villas to budget hotels from around £11 per night.

September

Bustling Bodrum gets glorious sunshine during the late Autumn months
As the weather cools on home shores, much of Europe still enjoys predominantly balmy days.

Try Bodrum, on Turkey's Agean coast, which boasts average temperatures of up to 30.7C.

The bustling tourist resort gets glorious sunshine and has a buzzing atmosphere with the stunning beaches of Gumbet, Torba and Bitez nearby.

Travel Republic features rooms from £4 per night.

October

Paphos is the perfect place for some October sun
If you're looking for somewhere hot enough to swim in the sea during October, Cyprus ticks your boxes.

Pretty Paphos - currently Europe's joint Capital of Culture with Denmark’s Aarhus - has highs of around 26.7C and ten hours of sunshine per day.

The sea temperature is a bath-like 24 degrees, so perfect for a pre-winter dip.

Portugal's Algarve is another winner for late Autumn sun, with average highs of 23.2C and over seven hours of sunshine per day.

Trivago features rooms from £16 per night per person in October.

November

Fuerteventura, the second-largest Canary Island, has great weather all year round

Fuerteventura's sunny beaches are warm all year round but November is a great time to avoid the crowds.

Temperatures remain reliably around 24.2 degrees and rarely fall below 18 degrees. The prospect of rain is low with rainfall this month averaging 10 mm.

Longer-haul destinations for November sun seekers include Bangkok, where the average temperature is 33.1C, Cape Verde, which has highs of 28.9C and Brisbane, which peaks at 26.6C

December

Cape Town, where the sun shines for a generous 11 hours each day in December

Cape Town is the ultimate Christmas getaway destination, with an appealing non-tropical heat similar to a summer in the Mediterranean.

The sun shines for a generous 11 hours each day, and temperatures peak at 19.8 degrees, with just 15mm of rain.

With endless beaches, each to suit different types of holidaymaker, from sun worshippers to surfers, it's the ideal alternative to spending December warming socks on the radiator.

But for something closer to home, try Madeira off the north coast of Africa, which boasts highs of 21 degrees in December along with six hours of sunshine. You'll find accommodation from £19 per night on Lastminute.com.
