A trip to an ancient town in Rajasthan, India : Rishabhdev

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Rishabhdev also known as Shri Kesriaji it is a holy place for Jains, a well-known pilgrim site for the Jain temple Kesariyaji Tirth dedicated to the first Jain tirthankara Rishabhadeva. Local tribe Bhils also worship the deity. Rishabhanatha is said to be the founder of Jainism by the different Jain sub-traditions.
The region has more than 200 mines of green marble. Rishabhdev is the largest miner of green marble. 90 per-cent of green marble in the world is produced in Rishabhdev. This place is only 65 km from my city and I visited several times but this time I observed it very closely and captured some memories in my camera.

It is a very old temple and the town is developed around the temple. The presence of temple also leads to income of many people. There are many shops near the temple that sales so many different items including Puja Samagri used for worship.

At the entrance of the temple, there is a unique ancient water clock in which every 24 minutes a bowl filled with water from the hole at the bottom of it, when it repeats 8 times it shows 1/4 of day and thus after 32 times it makes a day, This is the ancient system to calculate the day.

There is a ritual of anointing in Jainism, called Abhisheka. Every day in the morning god's idol is poured with water and other liquids like animal milk, ghee etc. For this ritual, a person must take bath and clad in clean saffron or white color clothes. As I too decided to perform this ritual so took bath and clad in saffron Dhoti-Dupatta. It is also a traditional dress of many parts of India. Photography is not allowed inside the temple so could not capture the event of abhisheka but if you want to see what exactly it is you can visit here 👉 Abhishaka and Mahamastakabhisheka

This is me clad in saffron to perform the spiritual ritual of Abhisheka in the temple.

I do not support any use of an animal product in any way so I did Abhishaka with water only and came out, as next was with animal milk.
There are lots of interesting things I have to share with my fellow steemians which I will share in my next post.
Hope you liked it.

@chetanpadliya
I have been to that place... There r many temple up sides to each corners.. Also there r names written on floor tiles of donaters...

Time calculating way was interesting to know :)Heard alot about Rajasthan. Hope to visit there soon in my next visit to India :)

This time measurement units are actually defined in Jain scriptures and is still followed by their followers in calculating several religious rituals like meditation / sadhna, intermittent fasting, in determination of shelf life of milk, water etc.

As this is a Jain temple, perhaps, this type of clock was put here.
