Worldly Wanders #5 - Kiteboarders at Scarborough, South Africa
The winter sun was calling today so I popped by Scarborough Beach. This will probably be my last trip to the beach as I'll be heading to the V&A Waterfront tomorrow and will then fly back home.
You often find people in and around the area kiteboarding. this is definitely a sport that has become quite popular over the past few years.
I can only imagine how taxing this must be on the body... I really do think it could be a lot of fun though! Maybe a little scary for beginners seeing you might "stall" a way offshore - too close to the sharks for my liking (and Cape Town is famous for it's Great White Shark population.) Oops, did I say that out loud?
Well, getting back to Scarborough a bit...
Scarborough is a relatively small town with a population of just over 1 000 people. This includes the handful of people living just up the road in Misty Way (some amazing houses there...)
Since 1996 Scarborough has been designated as a "conservation village" which is surrounded by a conserved natural landscape. The town is committed to reverse past environmental damage and to thus help prevent any future environmental impacts.
Definitely a cute little village to pop by, have a coffee (or tea, if you're that way inclined), and maybe a stroll on the beach.
