"Dead City"

in #travel5 years ago

Samara region, the village of Vodino. This place is called the "Dead City". The most popular version is that it is an unfinished residential town of a non-built compressor plant. An old article was found in one of the Samara newspapers, what really should have been built there:

“It was supposed to build a settlement for workers of a house-building plant on the site. Kozelkah and Vodino village. The third option was chosen, since large areas were required for construction, since the construction of DSK-2 included, in addition to the plant of efficiency (large-panel house-building), a plant for cellular concrete and brick the plant. At the same time, the construction of the working village was also discussed. According to Mikhail Zolotarev, it was originally planned to build 485 thousand square meters (today the area of the “Dead City” is 250 thousand square meters). By the beginning of the 90s it became clear that it was impossible to continue the construction of DSK-2 due to lack of funding, and the construction was frozen. The construction of the cellular concrete plant and its design continued. After a while, the construction part of the cellular concrete plant was basically completed: mustache and various warehouses. In 1991, in connection with the collapse of the USSR, funding was discontinued, and the construction of the plant, and with it the working village, was suspended. According to Mikhail Zolotarev, at that time communications were already carried out in the village, radiators were installed, some houses even had wallpapers on their walls, the issue of supplying heat to the village was decided. hey @chanych85, your post is really interesting and your photos are fantastic !! it is a real pity to see so much desolation in a place that could be revived and brought back to life. do you live near it?

Hi @road2horizon.!) Thanks for the feedback.))
This place is located about 20 kilometers from the city where I live.)

It is really sad to see that half finished building left to rot and unfortunately it's not the only one I suppose. That land and the place could be used for something smart and useful. One day it's going to cost a lot of money to clean up the place.

This is sad, I agree with you. But nothing will change. In our reality, it is easier to choose another place for building than to use the old ...

I agree, it's easier to build from scratch, however, that land will be important one day.
