Explore With Me : Venice - ITALY

Hello Steemit friends!

Truman Capote said “Venice is like eating an entire box of chocolate liqueurs in one go.” Well, I second that!

No matter how many cities I travel, Venice has a unique place in my heart. Though it is not my favorite city, with its all sizes of old bridges, windows filled with murano glasses, narrow streets and gondolas swimming in the canals, it is super easy to fall in love with Venice.

I must admit as cliche as it sounds, Venice is a very romantic city. You can see couples on gondols, couples taking photos, couples buying seuvenirs, couples everywhere. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the amazing history and culture of the city.

I think, the first thing one needs to do is to get on a vaporetto and have a tour on Grand Canal. This is the best way to see the attractions along the Grand Canal.

By the end of the 16th century a contest is run in order to renew the old bridge. Among many architect Antonia Ponte won the contest by his Rialto Bridge design. The bridge was opened in 1591. For a long time it was the only bridge for pedestrians and today it is the the oldest bridge on the Grand Canal. The bridge is extremely crowded since it is one of the most important landmarks of Venice and there are small stores along the bridge where you can buy souveniers.

The Santa Maria della Salute was built as an offer to God on 17th century, after many citizen of Venice had been killed by plague. As sad as its story is, the church is an impressive landmark.

Fish Market is a gothic building, located near the Rialto Bidge. Even though it is a modern building, it is one the oldest fish markets in the World.

Piazza San Marco is one of the most beautiful squares where you can see the historical buildings while having coffe in one of the restaurants at the square. Some of the most important buildings in Venice can be seen in this square.

Basilica di San Marco is one of the must see building is Venice. The first basilica wa burned during a revolt againts the doge. The present basilica was completed in 1071 and accepted as one the most important examples of byzantine architecture The bell tower of the basilica Campanile is the only tower in Piazza San Marco with 98,6 meter length.

The Torre dell’Orologio (clocktower) shows the time, the dominant zodiac sign and moon’s current phase. The clock was so reliable that all the clocks in Venice were to be set as this clock.

My advice to the ones who wants to visit Venice would be to get on a gondol. Yes, it is expensive but the gondols go through the small canals unlike vaporetto which only goes through grand canal. Therefore you get to see even the most secluded parts of the city.

On our way back to train station we decided not to use the vaporetto but to get lost in the city as pedestrians. Which was one of the best desicions ever. Narrow streets of Venice is not exactly tourist magnet but that is what's great about it.

Even though it is one of the most touristic cities I've ever been, Venice is a city that everyone should add to their travel bucket list.

The feeling of freedom. Wonderful story and very beautiful pictures. They are full with easenes and freedom. I've been to many places in the world, but I've never gotten to Venice. Your story has colored this city in yet another new perspective. Thank you for that. Venice is the first in the line.

Everyone should see a watercity before they die. It is beautiful. Thank you for your nice comment:)

Thanks for the tour!
I have never been to Venise :( Maybe one day... And when I go, i'll try to avoid the tricks of the restaurants: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/22/venice-authorities-step-in-after-four-tourists-charged-1000-for-meal

hahaha :) Hope it was cheaper for you!

Well I was living in Italy that year and everytime I visited Venice it was for a day never stayed the night. So I only had a bite to eat for lunch and coffee, nothing for breakfast or dinner. And I was travelling that year so pretty experienced I was, stayed away from souveniers.

Long story short, it was cheap for me :)

harika fotoğraflar ve mükemmel bir post, ellerine sağlık :)

Teşekkürler, 5 sene öncesi hatırlayabildiğim kadarını yazmaya çalıştım :)

Amazing journey ! Sadly the city will be under water in a few years from now :/

Probably not in a few years but yes it is sad that its sinking :(
