Brother or not, you should try to make it there. Try to go in October, so you can immediately head down to Oktoberfest (München) afterwards.
It's on my travel to-do list!
Oktoberfest is actually in September, it started yesterday and is over on 3rd of Oktober.
And I personally would recommend that you miss it, unless you're not totally beer soaked and enjoy that kind of fun Its a total ripoff and rather disgusting, puking high schoolers and full of rednecks. You hardly ever make it into the big beer tents, they are mostly reserved by the wealthy locals. Munich in general is quite a boring and formal place, for my taste as a northern German. But the Bavarian countryside towards the Alps is beautiful and all the lakes are worth a trip.
Check out Berlin for the whole spectrum of what makes up Germany, its a crazy city with awesome variety, goes non stop full on, 24/7. Most vibrant place in Europe atm.
