Nudgee Beach and Boondal Wetlands, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

in #travel5 years ago

Good afternoon steemers,
This morning I woke feeling so amazing that I decided to call in sick and go look at some water. My chosen location was the local Nudgee Beach area about 20mins drive north of Brisbane City.

This visit I spent more time in the mangrove section that boarders the Nudgee Beach / Boondal Wetlands areas.

There is technically a small section of Beach but it's really more of a sand flats and mangrove type location.

The weather was great, nice and sunny, I procrastinated a little and headed off.... The weather quickly turned to shit and rain fell on the windscreen of my car.
The rain was only light but the sun was replaced by clouds.....

I headed to the boardwalk section in the mangroves as the trees would provide some shelter from the rain.

The boardwalk is about 1.5kms for the round circut back to the car park.

The walk twists and turns and takes you through weird creepy sections (apparently some strange things happen here at night...) that open up into pleasing ocean views.

The first part of the walk is mainly mangrove country:

This creek is fed directly by the ocean and is protected by law from fishing and collecting, as is the entire wetlands until you get to the ocean side.

Unfortunately I got there at low tide, poor planning!

The first half of the is mainly views like the one above, if you stay still enough you can spot all sorts of bird and sea life.

Spots like this pop up at openings in the trees, this is very close to the mouth of the creek.

The ocean is in the distance and it connects the famous Brisbane River to this waterway known as Shultz Canal.

The area seems to be frequented by dog walkers, fisher people's and fitness types.....and as the sun goes down you might run into some friendly doggers 😂.
I've never come across any suspect activities personally but it seems to be a joke amoung locals.
Each to their own I say.....

Back to the beach!

A BBQ with a view.

The park section is rather well set up with many BBQs set up with views of the water that are free to use.
Toilets and parking are ample also.

The mangrove spider webs are hectic!

Well worth a day trip if your in the area and a good place to sleep if you are travelling by van.
Locally people right the place off as a dirty beach but I think it's an underrated gem!
Food is available at the local shop, the prices are decent and the food is eatable, but BYO BBQ is your best option here.

I'll return on a sunny day at high tide and report back.

Thanks for stopping by and Peaceful Travels,
Sam.
