Trip to the English Riviera

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I recently took a trip to Devon which is also known as the English Riviera. A place where the sun shines more than any other in the UK and where palm trees line the street, honestly!

Don't get me wrong it is not Monaco but it has beautiful coastlines and English eccentricity in abundance.

I stayed in a medieval themed hotel called Churston court which was like stepping back in time, suits of armour hiding in corners and weird old paintings where the eyes follow you around the room.

The hotel was close to the coastal path along which I took a hike to the fishing town of Brixham, famous for it's fish market which sends beautiful seafood all over the country every morning.

Brixham is the quintessential English seaside town, with fish and chip shops dotted along the streets. Stalls selling cockles along the seafront and seagulls waiting to attack you for any food item you may be carrying at any moment! You see bits of eccentricity in these places which creates great charm

Where else might you see a dog driving car or double entendres used for café names??

A short boat trip from Brixham took us to Paignton with views of the lovely sandy beaches and colourful beach huts dotted along them

We then caught a Steam train back to the hotel which was great fun, winding through the hills and over tall viaducts, steam billowing behind us.

A fantastic trip to the seaside!
