Hot water beach, New Zealand
Hot water beach was an unique experience for a Finnish guy. It was really amazing how hot the water was and that it was bubbling. The bubbling is not caused by boiling water, but by the release of carbon-dioxide gas. There were a lot of people on the beach that had dug big holes and just sat in them enjoying the hot water.
I will now try to explain how this hot water thing works. More than two kilometers beneath the ground, there is a reservoir of hot water and heated rocks. The heat is a leftover of volcanic activity that occurred 5 to 9 millions years ago. Then there are springs that rises through fractures in the ground. The hot springs can be found by digging a hole in the tidal area, two hours either side of low tide.

Yesss! i'd been there too! The warm water coming from nowhere early morning, what a pleasure of natural jacuzzi. There was no one in the beach when i went though :P
