小次男 咖哩所 Jinan Curry Review

I was looking for places to eat by my hotel and saw that 小次男 咖哩所 Jinan Curry had good reviews. Whenever I find Japanese curry in Taiwan, I take the opportunity to try it because it's one of my favorite food. Jinan curry serves it up good! Thick and full of flavor!

小次男 咖哩所 Jinan Curry serves two styles of Japanese curry in Taichung: Pork or Beef. They don't deep fry anything, so the meat is stewed with the curry making it more tender. Personally, I prefer the deep fried crunch since it adds to the overall texture of the dish, but I'm not faulting Jinan Curry for their menu type.

The curry was thick, full of flavor and just a little sweet. The rice was okay and it came with a sunny side egg. Underneath the egg is rice and underneath the curry is cheese. It was a tasty dish to recommend at 4/5 for any curry lover.

小次男 咖哩所 Jinan Curry offers to make it spicy for free by giving you this small spoonful of spicy paste. Any time someone gives you a small amount of spicy, you should try it carefully. I took a small dab, mixed it in with my curry and dang! It was super concentrated spiciness! I started coughing while trying to drink water. I would have preferred a spicy sauce (hot sauce) that I could evenly mix in, but overall the experience was good.

Money In Taiwan

Tax Is Included In The Price

All displayed prices in Taiwan are the actual price. Tax is already included and for large purchases, tourists visiting Taiwan can get a 5% Taiwan VAT refund at the airport Tax Refund counter. Some shops offer this service too, but they will require your passport.

Taiwan Is Cash Only (For Most Small Shops)

The primary payment method for all transactions in Taiwan is cash. It's very rare for small shops to take anything other than cash. It's more common to see places accept the Taipei Metro Card as payment rather a credit card.

Supermarkets and convenience stores in Taiwan (7-Eleven, Family Mart) do not accept credit cards (at least not American credit cards). You can only make purchases by cash or by using your pre-loaded funds on your EasyCard.

Using Credit Cards in Taiwan

If you want to use your credit card in Taiwan, make sure to check if a restaurant in Taiwan accepts credit card in advance. When a place does accept credit card, it will typically be Visa or Mastercard. It's extremely rare for a place to accept Discover and American Express.
UberEats, HonestBee, Deliveroo and FoodPanda are Taipei Food Delivery Services where you can order food directly to your airbnb or hotel using a credit card.

Exchanging Money in Taiwan

You can exchange money at the airport or any bank in Taiwan. The rates vary from bank to bank and it can be a hassle to get a good rate. For additional information, check out my Exchanging Money In Taiwan Guide.
