How Fabulous is Las Vegas for Christmas
I landed few days ago in Las Vegas, hoping I can buy a cheap car soon and go on a road trip in the neighbor states. It turns out my task was not so easy, so I ended up stuck in the city for the holidays instead of watching the stars in some of the national parks. There is still hope I can do that tomorrow and I keep my fingers crossed that this will be my Christmas present. After all, I have been a good girl this year (:. Although the motto of the city is that what happens here should stay here, I am not going to keep that secret from you. You can find some tips and tricks where to go and what is worth visiting.
Las Vegas turned out to be a huge city, at least according to the European standards. It has a population of more than half million of people and the famous part of it is just a small street which can be easily walked. Las Vegas Boulevard or the Strip is conveniently located next to the Airport, so when you spend all your money you can easily fly away to earn some more. The strip starts from the airport, furthermore, the famous sign where everyone is taking a picture, me including, is right next to it. So, if your place is somewhere at the beginning of the strip (close to Tropicana Ave) consider even walking to it. Transportation is available at the airport, a taxi will charge you about 20 bucks, Lyft and Uber 12 and there is a public transportation bus which can take you to the strip for just 2 dollars. There is a machine right next to the bus station where you can buy yourself a ticket. It will show you as a cheapest variant 6$ for 2 hours valid ticket. Don't buy it. Instead, make sure you have a change and pay on the bus when you are boarding (2$ one ride). It won't work if you do not have the exact amount. If you will need to change the bus you can purchase the same 2 hours valid ticket again from the bus for 3$.
If you are planning to rent a car you can do it directly from the airport. There is a free shuttle bus, which goes to the place where you can do it. I was comparing the prices between that place and other places in Vegas where you can rent a car and it doesn't seem to be overpriced. If you are planning to go other places than the Strip you really need a car. Distances are quite big and the American cities are in general not created for pedestrians. There are sidewalks but people are not used to seeing others walking. Believe me, I walked (:. The strip can easily be covered on foot and it is something you will enjoy. Although it is a rather long walk from Dessert Ave to Tropicana, you will be entertained the whole way. Many times, you will have to walk into the casinos, so you can choose where to spend some money and get a free drink. If you would like to see some of the hotels inside you will probably need two nights.
Metropolitan is really amazing and you can spend plenty of time wandering around. There is even an ice rink where you can go skating with a view of the glamorous Las Vegas. Bellagio is another building worth visiting and you can see few galleries inside. The famous fountains in front of the building can be seen every 15 minutes after 8 pm and every 30 minutes before that hour. Make sure you find a good spot to see them before the water show starts or you will be stuck behind someone taller than you. That is what usually happens to me (:.
I expected Las Vegas to be more festive for the holidays, but there is not so much decoration.
Maybe is not needed, as the Strip looks decorated year-round. There are so many lights and advertisement everywhere. Buildings look amazing and you can find little Venice, Paris, New York, Egypt and many other famous marks there. The owners invested a lot in their hotels and it is sad that most of them have bankrupted according to the locals. Everything is working, but the things have changed a bit since my last visit 7 years ago. You can feel that hotels are trying to make some savings. Make sure that your hotel doesn’t charge you for a parking place, even if you don’t even have a car (;.
The weather is quite good at this time of the year – 17 degrees Celsius or 62 Fahrenheit and all-time sunny, which makes it quite nice to walk around without experiencing the heat from the desert where the city is actually located.
Las Vegas is fabulous year-round. At least the main street is. If you stay longer than 3 days you start to realize that the other part of it is just a regular city with homeless people and all other problems every other metropolis has.
Let’s not forget that every one of us is probably luckier than the other 98% of the population on the Earth. Merry Christmas everyone and be nice to each other (:.
