And even if you can't afford to travel - just go somewhere else. Drive around and see new places. (Of course, if the crime rate is high in your city, don't visit certain neighborhoods ...!)

This is some good advice, because there have been a growing number of deadly shootings that have effected my friends in Buffalo. Part of the reason I believe a lot wish to make it out of the city (I am in a very safe neighborhood, but visiting my friends requires one to be careful, especially at late hours of the night).
