Travel PHOTOGRAPHY 📸 : 💫 The German Wine Route 💫 (the sunny side of Germany)
Since 2013 when I hear the name Germany I think of kiwi trees, almond blossoms, grapes, summer heat, sunny weather, amazing wine and beautiful landscapes.
The photos in my post are from the German Wine Route area, including: Neustadt, Speyer, Deidesheim, Rhodt & Mussbach.
In 2012 a couple knocked on my studio door. They were living in a little village on the Wine Route in Germany called Mussbach on the Wine Route and asked me if I would consider an artist in residence for a month and an exhibition in the coming year.
Germany has a warm exotic wine area? Really? Well, of course, I was thrilled to be somewhere for a month and just paint far away from any distraction.
This was me with two of the four canvas paintings I created there.
I was welcomed very warmly. Already on the second day, they offered me for my huge surprise 20 bottles of local wine. 20 bottles? I was really very confused. Why I asked? They told me the previous painter drank 30 bottles. I don't think a bottle a day keeps the doctor away. Only one bottle for the month was my choice and I shared it with my friends, the couple who invited me, and took amazing care of me the whole time. I think it was my last bottle of wine ever since.

The German Wine Route is the oldest of Germany's tourist wine routes.
Located in the Rhineland-Palatinate area, the route was established in 1935.
The area around the German Wine Route is one of the warmest regions in Germany. People can enjoy a sunshine duration of over 1800 hours a year. There are many fig trees, lemons, kiwifruits, even palm trees, which are normally not common for Germany.
Visitors can enjoy beautiful very old buildings, some dating back around 15 & 16 Centuries.
The German Wine Route is marked by numerous open-air wine festivals, held annually from March to October.
It is an amazing area to switch of, relax, write, paint and enjoy good wine.

Nice post - I had no idea kiwis grow in Germany! Also a nice set of pictures from that pittoresque village. In the city view I especially like the brightly coloured details on buildings.
Thank you. Many people don't know about this area of Germany. Even most of my German friends have never been there. It is really amazing and I am thinking of going back in the area this summer. They even had small scorpions.
Even scorpions!? Then again, I'm easily amazed; had no idea there are prawn swimming in the sea in the west-coast of Sweden..

Wonderful story, photos and artwork! Brought back many great memories of living several hours to the south in Lahr-Schwarzwald in the 1980s and traveling thoughout Germany, and - yes - drinking wine! Was back about 10 years ago looking forward to some nice halbtrocken, was disappointed to learn it wasn't that popular any more. Sad.
Thank you. To be honest I find it great when a wonderful place is not that popular because it preserves it a bit. It becomes a fantastic destination to go to, as a resort to escape;). The most popular places get totally destroyed over time and lose the spirit of something special.
Agree - we like to visit the less popular spots. Two years ago we did almost 3 months in Australia and New Zealand, and shortly after we started agreed that we didn't need to see another city so spent most of our time in the country. If you're interested you can find my posts on worldmap. Cheers.
